Stand Up For What’s Right
June 28th
Courage, as we all know by now, is the ability to do what is right no matter what the consequences are. The sad thing, though, is that most of us don’t feel like we often get the chance to act courageously. Is it courage to order the full-fat latte instead of the skim? After all, you know the consequences and you are willing to deal with them. No, probably not. So then what kind of actions can we do, in our day-to-day lives, that are courageous?
Try this: Stand up for what is right, literally. I don’t know how many of you commute, but those of you who do know what I’m saying. How many times have you grabbed a seat on the train or the bus, knowing that there are older, weaker people who would benefit more from them? How do we excuse this? “I’m tired.” “My feet hurt.”
And the octogenarian who got on behind you, her feet don’t hurt? She’s not tired? So stand up, offer her your seat, knowing that you’ll be riding home on aching feet for the next 45 minutes. That’s Courage.
