Dreams Last for so Long…

The Science of Sleep, Directed by Michael Gondry

What did you dream last night, what shadowy events transpired in your sleeping mind as your body slumbered? Stop, consider: did your dreams last night have anything to do with your goals, with your aspirations? Did they reflect on your personal desires or were they just a  hodgepodge of random events and bizarre images? Odds are, if you’re like most people, they didn’t. Our nightly dreams bear little or no relation, for the average person, to our Dreams- the goals we have set for ourselves and the heights we wish to reach.

Why is that? How come we call them Dreams, then, if they have nothing to do with our slumbering mind? Because, like the visions we are treated to nightly, Dreams are ephemeral, they are not real. Desires do not exist. In actuality, no matter how badly you can taste that raise or how often you wish for that car, it is only by working, by planning and carrying out our goals that we can take those phantasms in our brain and raise them into their proper place, not just as wishes, but as Dreams.

Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.
