You could easily spend several days in St. Augustine shopping and seeing the sights. If you're in a hurry, the major sights can be seen in a single day. The best way to get an overview of what's available is to take one of the several trolley tours or just stroll the city on foot. All attractions charge admission (usually no more than a few dollars) unless otherwise noted.



De Mesa & Sanchez Site - Mid-18th century shell-rock (Same material as the Castillo de San Marcos) home. Through extensive excavation, this two room house has become the source of a great deal of information about St. Augustine. Near the corner of Cuna St. George Street

Mission de Nombres De Dios - This Mission, overlooking the intracoastal waterway, was founded in 1565 and is possibly the first permanent mission in the U.S. A 208 Ft. cross stands here and is visible to ships, day and night. Free admission. Old Mission Rd. and San Marco Ave.

St. Augustine Alligator Farm - The earth's largest collection of crocodiles, alligators, caiman and gharial. Home of Gomek, an 1800 pound, 18Ft. long crocodile who is the largest of it's kind in captivity. Petting zoos , more reptiles, spider monkeys, birds, deer, pigs, and miniature horses can all be found here. Live reptile shows hourly. Fort Matanzas National Monument - Matanzas is Spanish for, "Slaughters" because the Spanish killed about 300 French at this sight in the 1560's. The fort was built in 1740's and was a Spanish defense for the city until the early 1800's. Free tours by boat. 8635 A1A S.

Lightner Museum - This museum, located in what was previously the Alcazar Hotel, was built by Henry Flagler in the late 1800's. Publisher Otto Lightner turned the hotel into a museum to house his art and antique collection in 1948. Also home to an antique mall. Cordova and King Streets

St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum - The light house which stands today was built in 1875. It replaces a Spanish light house which stood on the site from 1565 until 1870 and was Florida's first lighthouse. St.Photios National Greek Orthodox Shrine - This Byzantine styled shrine is dedicated to the Greek colony of New Smyrna, which was founded in 1768 by Scotch and British tyrants who made them indentured servants at the colony indefinitely. Exhibits depicting the sad, daily lives of these Greek colonists as well as beautiful Byzantine styled frescoes. Donations appreciated. 41 St. George Street
