Boston is a true New England city, in every sense of the word. The Red Sox, Celtics and Clam Chowder may immediately come to mind, but Boston is much more.
The Puritans chose this city on the Pennensula, ""Shawmut"" (unclaimed land) as the natives called it, because of it's location inland, but near enough to the ocean. It became the capital in 1630 and by the mid-1700's Boston was the largest trade center in the original colonies.
Today Boston is one of the largest cities in New England, with old and new merging almost seamlessly.
