| Wright Brother's Memorial at sunset |
Not much more than a collection of sand dunes and a lifesaving station in 1903 when the Wright Brothers made history, Kill Devil Hills is now a bustling resort community. Sandwiched between and mostly indistinguishable from Kitty Hawk and Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills is a collection of mid-range family resort houses, small and chain hotels, local restaurants and a growing number of franchise outposts. The commercial district is centered along Highway 158 and is probably the most complete on the Outer Banks. Public beach access is good.
