Looking North from Hatteras Lighthouse

Lodging
on the
Outer Banks

Northern Beaches | Historic & Resort Areas
Hatteras Island | Ocracoke Island

Lodging availability on the Outer Banks depends on the area. In the north, accommodations are mostly rental houses and condos. There are also a few inns. Moving south to the Nags Head area, there are still vacation homes, plus a range of hotels, both of the chain and independent variety. Few of the hotels are high rises.

Still farther south, on Hatteras Island, most communities have quite a few rental houses and a few small hotels. There are also government and private campgrounds. The same is true for Ocracoke, although there are relatively fewer beach houses due to the National Seashore.

We have visited the accommodations listed in the guides, and included those that meet resonable standards of upkeep and cleanliness. Some accommodations aren't listed here for a reason.
