Pony Pens

There's dispute over the origin of Ocracoke's wild ponies, some think they were released by 16th Century Spanish galleons. You can get a glimpse of them from the observation area outside of town.

National Park Service Visitor's Center

Authoritative information source for the island. Maps, brochures, books and more, next to the ferry terminal.

Museum and Visitor's Center

Contains photos and artifacts of island lifestyles and history. Free admission.

Walking Tour

Developed by the Park Service, a 3 mile 90 minute tour which covers everything to see in Ocracoke. Definitely worth taking a look at for planning, or to use as a check list to make sure nothing is missed on the island.

Ocracoke Lighthouse

Owned and operated by the U.S. Coast Guard, built in 1823 and is 75 feet tall. Climbing not allowed.
