Wise Today, Gone Tomorrow

Copernicuss Heliocentric Model of the Galaxy

How can one truly “know” anything? The facts and assumptions that pass for Wisdom in this world are transient. Point in fact: two thousand years ago many wise learned men thought that lice spontaneously grew out of dirt. Less than that time distant Gallileo was tried for saying that the earth rotated around the sun. Within the last century it was believed that the atom was the smallest piece of matter and that computers would, one day, be only the size of a small room rather than the size of a house.

Science and human comprehension are ever-shifting and constantly growing, so little of what we know will stand the test of time. That is why we, as gatherers of Wisdom, as seekers of knowledge have an obligation to be open-minded. We cannot say, this is all there is and no more. We cannot claim to have conquered every field or charted every inch. We must keep seeking, keep informed and, most importantly, keep our conservatism at bay.
